Are you an MTN customer? Do you want to transfer browsing data to other customers or do someone want to transfer data to you? If yes, then I will be showing you how to do so with the mtn data transfer code.
We are all aware that MTN is the largest mobile network in Nigeria and they have a high percentage of internet users. These internet users make use of data every day which means they constantly purchase it.
If one person purchases data, it is possible for him/her to share it with others if they wish to and save cost. On the MTN network, there is USSD via which this can be done and i am aware that is what you came here for.
We will be discussing this code and also how to use it. Let’s get started.
Code to Transfer Data on MTN
The code to transfer data on MTN is their default code for data which is *131#. Before you can use it to transfer data, there are a couple of things you need to do and the first one is to register your phone number.
Phone Number Registration
To register your phone number on the platform, you should dial *131*2*1# from your MTN line. Alternatively, you can do it via SMS by texting REG to 131.
If your number is successfully registered, you will get a confirmation SMS from MTN. In the SMS will be your data transfer PIN which is the default PIN – 0000. It is important to change this PIN to something else; something unique to you alone so as to keep your data safe.
How to Change Default PIN
To change your transfer PIN, follow the below steps.
- Dial *131*2*5# from your MTN line
- Enter the default PIN (0000)
- Then, enter your new PIN (must be four digits in number)
- Enter the new PIN again as confirmation.
Alternatively, you can text Change DEFAULT PIN NEW PIN NEW PIN to 131. For example, your new PIN is 4543, you will text Change 0000 4543 4543 to 131.
Whichever one you make use of, you will get a notification from MTN to be sure that your PIN has been changed. With this done, you should make sure you do not forget your code as it is required for every data transfer transaction.
After this, the next thing you need to do is to add beneficiaries i.e the person(s) you wish to transfer data to.
How to Add MTN Data Share Beneficiaries
It is easy to add a number(s) to your MTN data share beneficiary list, simply.
- Dial *131*2*3#
- Enter the phone number you wish to add.
Alternatively, you can text Add to 131. That is all and you can now proceed to share data. Note that the maximum number of beneficiaries you can add is 5.
How to Share Data with the Transfer USSD Code
To share data, simply dial 131*2*4# or text share to 131. Note that dialing or texting these will transfer all the data you have and it will be shared equally among you and your beneficiaries. You cannot send it to just one person.
Sharing data on MTN is free of charge, you will not be paying any money. This is mainly because the code is used from MTN to MTN, it cannot be used with other networks.
There is no limit to sharing data on MTN. So far as you have up to the data you want to transfer in your data account, you can share.
The data you share is valid for as long as the data plan you purchased is. For example, if you purchase the MTN N1,000 data plan which is valid for 30 days and share it between you and your beneficiaries, the shared data will also be valid for 30 days.
If you are in a situation where you need to send data to other MTN users from your data balance, you can do that follow the instructions as detailed in this blog post on how to use mtn data transfer code and other information in it.
